The Unexpected Restart

Updated: 2 days ago

My last blog entry was on June 3.

Today is June 21.

Only eighteen days have passed, yet it feels like an entirely different chapter of my life.

A lot happened during that short period—meeting deadlines, closing deals, juggling responsibilities, and traveling. Life was moving fast, almost mechanically. Wake up, work, create, deliver, repeat.

Then came Restart.

The funny thing is, I was supposed to go to one specific country. Everything was planned around that destination. But life had other plans. I ended up traveling to a completely different country one that almost nobody knew about. Well, except for my family.

What followed felt like something out of a spontaneous adventure.

It took me three trains and two buses to finally reach my destination. Every transfer brought me farther away from familiarity and deeper into the unknown. The place was unfamiliar, yet every step carried a strange sense of excitement.

For the first time in a very long time, I allowed myself to disappear.

Not in a dramatic way.

Just quietly.

No social media updates of where I am. No location tags. No announcements.

I simply let myself get stranded there.

And somehow, that was exactly what I needed.

What surprised me most wasn’t the destination itself. It was what happened inside me.

Somewhere between train stations, bus rides, unfamiliar streets, and moments spent alone with my thoughts, I felt something return.

Excitement.

Curiosity.

Those unexpected butterflies in the stomach.

Feelings I thought had disappeared.

Looking back, maybe it wasn’t that surprising after all. The human mind craves novelty. When we spend too long carrying stress, disappointment, anger, or heartbreak, our brains adapt to survival mode. We become focused on protecting ourselves rather than experiencing life. But something happens when we step into unfamiliar territory. New places, new experiences, and uncertainty awaken parts of us that routine can sometimes put to sleep.

For so long, my emotional landscape had been dominated by frustration, disappointment, and resentment. Those emotions became so familiar that I almost accepted them as my normal state.

But there, in a place I never intended to be, something shifted.

I remembered what it feels like to anticipate something good.

To smile without forcing it.

To feel hopeful instead of defensive.

To be present instead of simply surviving.

And there was more.

I found myself trying things I had never done before.

Some were simple. Some pushed me out of my comfort zone. But each experience carried the same message: life is still capable of surprising me.

Sometimes we think healing arrives through answers, closure, or grand realizations. But perhaps healing is much quieter than that.

Perhaps it begins the moment we become curious again.

The moment we stop replaying old stories and start creating new ones.

Maybe that is why this journey felt different.

It wasn’t about tourism.

It wasn’t about escaping.

It wasn’t even about finding answers.

It was about rediscovering parts of myself that had quietly gone dormant.

The version of me that still gets excited.

The version of me that still believes in possibilities.

The version of me that isn’t defined by pain.

Sometimes healing doesn’t arrive through grand breakthroughs.

Sometimes it arrives disguised as a wrong turn.

A missed plan.

Three trains.

Two buses.

A destination you never intended to reach.

Life doesn’t always give us what we planned for.

Sometimes it gives us exactly what we need.

And if we’re lucky enough to recognize it, those unexpected detours remind us that our hearts are still capable of feeling more than anger.

They are still capable of wonder.

And somewhere along the way, I met someone who unexpectedly turned my plans upside down.
